Nonprofit Recovery Fund
The Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) announces a new initiative, Nonprofit Recovery Fund, to provide flexible
financial aid packages to help nonprofits return, financially, to where they were before the September 11th
event.
The Fund will help nonprofits that have experienced physical damage to their facilities; that are responding
to increased demand for services for victims of the disaster; that are coping with interruptions of income
(both earned and contributed) for a variety of reasons related to events of September 11th. Packages may
consist of a combination of grants, recoverable grants, and loans. The Fund�s services are available to small
to medium-size nonprofit organizations with 501(c)3 status who are located in the New York metropolitan area.

Grants for Victims of Hate
The AmeriDream Charity, Inc. has established the "Arab American Rebuilding Fund" to provide direct financial
assistance to victims who have sustained property damage due to race-related crimes committed on or after
September 11, 2001. Those victims include Arabs, people of Middle Eastern descent, or others who were
mistakenly identified as Arab. Deadline for submission is December 14, 2001.

Ford Foundation Program Associates
The Ford Foundation has announced its 2002-2004 Program Associates Program. The Ford Foundation
Program Associates is a two-year, noncareer-track, entry-level, professional position. Successful candidates
will have obtained master's or law degrees no later than August 2002. The positions are intended to introduce
a diverse group of potential leaders to the field of philanthropy early in their careers in the
not-for-profit sector. Ideal candidates will have some experience in the not-for-profit sector. Individuals
with extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, however, are not eligible for the program. The

Revson Fellowship
Fellowship opportunity for urban activists Study at Columbia University, receive an $18,000 stipend and free
tuition. Fellows come from diverse fields, including: cultural organizing, education, electoral politics,
environment, health, housing, immigrants rights, law, labor, race relations, youth development, social

American Field Service (AFS) offers a month-long intensive educators program to China or Thailand departing in
mid-July and returning in mid-August of 2002, as well as a semester program to Thailand, both fall and spring
semesters. Teachers of all subjects and grade levels, at all stages or their careers, as well as education
administrators, librarians, and college-level professors, are encouraged to apply. The AFS Educator Abroad program
combines class teaching with cultural immersion to gain insight into a different way of life and educational system.
Participants will meet with educators, community leaders, and local government officials in their host country to

WTC Disaster Resources
Governor�Pataki�s office announces crisis counseling for New Yorkers. The crisis-counseling program provides
free counseling to individuals affected by Sept. 11th. For more information or to arrange for services,
individuals can call 1-800-LIFENET or visit their website at

The Alliance for the Arts has added a section to their website
(www.nyc-arts.org) in response to September 11th. The new
section lists information regarding cultural fundraising events, cultural programming, event changes, and

The South Asian Network offers language assistance in South Asian languages to access referrals to victim
assistance, legal and psychological counseling, health care services and domestic violence assistance. For

New Staff at the Federation
We are pleased to welcome back Charlie Lai as our new Director of Policy & Planning. Charlie was on staff
as the Director of Agency Services between 1997 and 1999. After being awarded a Revson Fellowship on the
Future of the City of New York, he went on to pursue a Masters in Public Administration at Columbia
University. He has returned to coordinate the Federation's WTC disaster Relief, Recovery and Rebuilding
Initiative. Welcome, Charlie!
