The 80-20 National Asian American Political Action Committee of Florida (NAAPAC FL) along with 10 organizations: Chinese Culture Club At UNF, Love Missionary Baptist Church, Indo-US Chamber of Commerce NE FL, Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Filipino American Community Council of NE Florida, Night of Asia, Jacksonville Chinese Association, Florida New Majority, and Mambos Cuban Café Pizzeria will present the 2015 Mayoral Candidates Forum. The event will take place on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. at the Jacksonville Marriott Hotel, 4670 Salisbury Road, Jacksonville Florida 32256.
Candidates Bill Bishop, Omega Allen, and Lenny Curry have confirmed their attendance.
The group’s intention is to utilize a question and answer style forum featuring the candidates running for the office of Mayor in order to make each candidate aware of the issues that are most important to the communities that they represent. In aggregate, the organizations noted above represent the communities of approximately 39% of registered voters in the city. The group wants to emphasize that the citizens of Jacksonville are willing to band together to make sure that their united voices are heard. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once noted that “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” This group is determined to increase the civic engagement of the citizens of Jacksonville and ensure that every voice and every vote will count in this election.
Wen Raiti, Acting President of NAAPAC FL noted that “NAAPAC’s prime directive is to maximize everyone’s fair and equal chance at attaining the American dream and each of the partnering organizations shares that mission.”
The event will be informational, educational, and non-partisan. All four candidates in the Mayoral Race have been invited.
