Immediate Release (October 27, 2014)
Miami, Florida --- October 26, 2014 --- With only one more week of early voting remaining prior to the November 4th General Elections, APIAVote and Asian American Federation of Florida’s non-partisan grassroots “Your Vote is Our Voice” campaign is urging the thousands of registered Asian-American citizens to make a historic impact on the Fall election cycle.
After multiple generations, Asian Americans have populated the American landscape as the fastest growing race across America with over 71% increase in Florida. Through their diverse culture and contributions in economy, education, health care, sports, and politics, Asian-Americans are increasingly visible in American news and history.
Although Asian American Voters comprise 1.58% of 11 million total voters in Florida, the AAPI vote represents a 2.5% margin of victory. As a result, any increased participation from Asian Americans can have a transformational impact on any local or statewide election. Additionally, Asian Americans have high percentages of voters in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Duval, Orange and Hillsborough Counties in Florida.
Politics has an impact on the life of every family regardless of race, religion, or national origin. Political decisions are made with or without a citizen’s participation. Each day, elected officials make decisions on the education system, healthcare coverage, infrastructure for transportation, development of housing, among many other issues, regardless of a citizen’s decision to vote. Asian-Americans have a choice to be involved in these important decisions.
