The
Asian American Federationt is holding a whole-day meeting in Orlando
on October 15, 2011 to further foster unity and
collaboration among its culturally diverse Asian Pacific American
organizations in Florida. The meeting will be held at DOUBLE TREE HOTEL By Hilton on 60 South
Ivanhoe Blvd, Orlando, FL 32804.
A general membership and Board of Directors meeting will be held in
the morning to ratify amendments to the Bylaws, which include the
provision for a President-Elect and creation of a Youth Council as
discussed in the Annual Summit that was held in Fort Lauderdale on
June 16-17, 2011. The general meeting will include reports from
various regions including the newly formed AAFF-Youth Council, an
update on the Alien Land Law, foreclosure initiatives, Voters Education/Registration Strategic
Plans for creating a Third Party Voter Registration Organization,
and cultural
event plans to celebrate the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
in May. This will be followed by a powerpoint
presentation on how to become an effective organization, how
to apply for grants, and how to raise funds for programs and various
community projects.
In the afternoon, Abraham Xiong, President of Government Contractors
Association, will conduct a workshop on government contracting,
explain the various types of government contracts, and provide
advice on how to grow one's organization into the Government market. Tax-related issues and Updates concerning the general Asian
public, non-profit and the business community will be presented by
Li Chen, CPA and Tax Manager for Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP.
