The Asian American Federation of Florida (AAFF) is a 501(c)(3) coalition that aims to unity and collaboration among the various Asian Pacific American organizations and to improve the relationship of a culturally diverse Asian Pacific American community in Florida. The AAFF is a statewide organization made up of more than 70 Bangladesh, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Iranian, Korean, Laotian, Taiwanese, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese faith-based and community-based organizations, businesses and media.

MIAMI, FL -- 02/15/10 -- The sights, sounds and flavors
of Asia return to the Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead
with the 20th Annual Asian Culture Festival on March
6-7, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A fun-filled family event, the Asian Culture Festival offers a virtual day trip to Asia. Festival-goers will enjoy a variety of Asian arts, crafts, entertainment, plants and exotic cuisine. Events include a Malaysian kick volleyball tournament known as Sepak Takraw, Chinese Lion Dances, Dragon Boat display, and performances by Japanese Taiko drummers, martial arts demonstrations, Tai-Chi demonstrations and Muay Thai kickboxing demonstrations. Appearing for the first time at the festival, 12 members of the Chandrakasem Rajabhat University Thai Dancers will perform Thai classical dances wearing elaborate costumes and many fun folk dances at the festival both days. The Iranian Dancers also will make their first appearance performing Persian, Bandari, Baba Karam and Azeri dances. Other performance highlights include Bangladeshi, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese and Indian folk music, classical music and dance, in addition to belly dancing, story telling, puppet shows and much more. Art is presented through handicrafts, paintings, displays and demonstrations of Thai fruit & vegetable carving and Japanese origami (decorative paper-folding techniques) and ikebana (Japanese flower arrangements). Visitors can treat their palates to cuisine from Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, India, Iran, Korea, Laos, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. There will be kabobs, papaya salad, fried rice, lo mein noodles, finger food such as sausage puffs, fried taro root, fried plantains, and fried purple yams, sticky rice in bamboo, charcoaled rice cakes, pad Thai, curries, lychee ice creams, bubble ice tea, Chang beer, desserts, and more! The festival will have a "Kid's Corner" equipped with a petting zoo, pond fishing, Asian passport activities, and much more. The 2010 Census will also be promoted during this colorful event to ensure a complete count of Asian Americans in Florida The festival is sponsored by the Thai-American Association of South Florida, the Miami-Dade County Asian Advisory Board, and Miami-Dade Parks & Recreation Department, with support from the Asian American Federation of Florida. WHAT: WHERE: WHEN: The Fruit & Spice Park, operated by Miami-Dade County Parks, grows more than 500 varieties of sub-tropical fruits, herbs, spices, vegetables and nuts from around the world on 39 lush acres in the agricultural Redlands.
